Tension is running high in eastern Ukraine as protests calling for independence escalate. Dozens of people have been killed in violence in Odessa. The Ukrainian Interior Ministry says at least 38 people lost their lives after the trade building where pro-Russian activists had taken shelter was set ablaze. Four others died during clashes between pro-Moscow and pro-Kiev protesters in the city. Unrest has also gripped other regions as Ukrainian troops continue military operations against pro-Russia protesters. Two Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in renewed fighting near Slavyansk. In southeastern Ukraine, there have been numerous demonstrations for more than a month now, with protesters demanding referendums on the future of their regions.
